i opt out - do not call list

You're sitting at your table at suppertime, and the phone rings. You answer, then there's a brief pause and a click after you say hello. If this makes you hang up because you know it's a telemarketer calling, this news is for you!

I heard about this on the radio this morning and thought I would share - ioptout.ca is a site (a free public service provided by Michael Geist) where Canadians can register to have their names and information removed from telemarketers' lists which won't be included in upcoming federal legislation. We really don't get too many calls, but I registered this evening. There is an option when registering for your personal information to be deleted in 24 hours, and you can select the parties you don't want calling from lists.

If you're in the US, you can go here to remove your name.

Thanks, Sherrie - I have been looking for one of these that will work. I signed up on one a while ago, but I still get far too many calls with no one on the end, etc.

The Canadian Marketing Association has a similar list -- you can sign up through their website. Not sure if it covers the same companies!
